I sincerely salute to your family members who died fighting for freedom. And I respect your belief about oppressive government. May I ask where you are from? And how long have you lived in HK? My hunch is that you are from the UK (British sustined heavy casualties in WWII). I was born in HK and I speak, read and write the language fluently. I believe that I know HK more than many people. I only visited Singapore a few times so you could say that I don't know it much other than what I observed.
Since you dislike oppressive government so much, don't you feel something is wrong in HK? Mainland is 10 times more oppressive than Singapore, and it is doing its best to support HK. Simply put, HK cannot survive if it is separated from mainland. If you dislike oppressive regime so much, then how can you stand a city that earns its living from an extremely oppressvie government? People come to do business in HK is either trying to sell to the mainland or buy from the mainland. Either way your business has a lot to do with the mainland directly or indirectily. You wouldn't business with Singapre government due to its oppressiveness. Then how could you do business with the mainland (10 times more oppressive)?

My my my,...it's so easy to lose track, isn't it?

What was originally asked for, and what he got in return. (sigh!)..

tvrlover: what you said does ring true about Singapore, but remember, HK is no angel either.

This time can we make sure the replies/discussions do not digress and are to the point?
