What? You think it is OK to smuggle drugs? Or you do that? The kid knew of the consequence and decided to went ahead. He chose the risk. It is not that he didn't know of the serious consequence in advance.
By the way, you must be on the payroll of HK government, and your only job duty must be to bash Singapore. Ordianary people could not have come up with all these faulty arguments and statistical figuers instantly unless research was done previously. Spending hours to write this? Don't you get busy on your job? That's another clue that you must be an government employee because government employee got nothing to do.
Hey bud, I don't work for the HK gov. lol. I love your assumptions, ok ok you got me, I'm the Governor here Nah, I don't have a job, I run business in the best city state in Asia - hong kong, I don't have to go to Singapore to do it as I probably would get arrested for SPEAKING MY MIND. What would you like me to do? say what the singapore government wants everyone to say, that everything is fine dandy and free?

But seriously, you think arresting people for spitting or chewing gum, or playing music too loud is or SPEAKING their mind ok? well buddy, then go live in Singapore or it's cousins myanmar and north korea.

FREEDOM DOES NOT AND CANNOT EXIST IN A COUNTRY/CITY WITHOUT FREEDOMS' FOR IT'S PEOPLE.

Singapore has no freedom of speech, no human rights and no regard for the people they "represent". You can go ahead get arrested and executed, but I'll stick to a free place like HK anyday.

The drug thing is an example, as it's all over the papers, oh wait? I forgot, in Singapore it's ILLEGAL to import newspapers lol that are 'against' the government agenda. Well, since you're here, go pick a newspaper up. This kid is an AU citizen, kid is a coke head, so the Triads used him and called in a tip that he's "smuggling", then passed a few large mules thru customs while they were detaining him. WITHOUT due process or human rights, he was arrested and sentensed to death with a mock trial.

You know you're right, Singapore is great, why not go back there and stay? I mean it's such a great place lol.

LET FREEDOM RING! DO NOT LET THE OPPRESSORS BRAIN WASH YOU.

btw....I had many people in my family die fighting for freedom from WWII and on, so you might think/be brainwashed to think otherwise but I believe freedom from oppressive governments is crucial for the survivial of HUMANkind.

If I were the police in Singapore (or any other country) and I knew someone is smuggling, I wouldn't arrest him at the border! I would follow him and let him let us to the big fish and up the chain of command. The whole story does sound a bit fishy.

yeah, HK is horrible, go back to singapore....

you remind me of an indian guy I saw at the restaurant the other day...he came in at 10pm, the last order is at 9pm and DEMANDED they open the kitchen and serve him! lol I felt like knocking the guy out.

On top of that, he demanded everyone speak english to him immediately! or else. LOL, I had to get up and tell the guy off, as none of the waitress ladies spoke english, wait? he must have forgot he's in Hong Kong. It's people that cannot and will not see reality that make this world a growing pool of branless fools.

I was reading the police there is so stupid that the triad has been able to smuggle a ton of drugs because of it. They arrest and put to death the pawn person immidiately (almost) instead of getting the big fish. Lately, the triad has been sending people with NOTHING on them, calling in a tip, they get arrested and executed - Singapore claims they "hid" the drugs - while the big mules pass right thru. This was in the papers for like 2 weeks already.

It's all 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other, tvrlover. People in 'democratic' regimes are fed propoganda just like people in 'oppresive' regimes. The United States is second only to China in the number of death sentences passed, and until 2005, was one of the few countries in the world to allow the execution of those who committed a crime as a minor. A minor ffs!! Also the American government banned the media from showing all the coffins arriving home from Iraq. If that is not suppressing freedom of speech then I don't know what is.

Now I don't want to turn this into a whole anti-american debate, just you have to understand how the world works.

I never would agree for 1 second that USA is free lol, but when compared to Singapore, well need I say more.

The problem in the USA is the states. The autonomous states create a LOT of laws based on politics - dems / reps. These laws usually do not reflect the federal government statutes and are very politically motivated. Just a few months ago, San francisco made it ILLEGAL to own handguns, well that's AGAINST the constituation of the USA (2nd amendment), but the state has not challenged it.

Another example is in Hawaii, I can own an AK47 but not a handgun, go figure?

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as "total" freedom, as that's akeen to anarchy, but my main point was the oppressive regimes like singapore, who take almost all human rights and dignity away from people show be brought out in the light, not "praised".
