| | | own business I have read that anyone can start their own company in HK.
Does anyone know if it is possible to do this in order to teach English legally? (I am on a new dependant visa and have been job hunting for a while with no success.)
Thanks

| | | Should have added, it is fairly trivial to own / start a company. The tougher part is being able to use that company to sponsor yourself.
People have done it ... | |

if you have a teaching qualification such as tefl then there shouldn't be any issue in you not being able to get a job.

| | Hi Jimbo,
Yes I have a teaching qualification but am not really interested in teaching children - have enough of that at home, and that is all I have found on offer.
Also the salary seems quite low, works out to be about $100 an hour and teaching hours always out of school times.

You should be able to get a lot more than $100 an hr easily, I know people that are getting $300 without even trying.
Theres always teaching part time so you can get a work permit and get some money in to persure other options, thats what I plan to do.
I know what you mean though about teaching kids, I want to steer away from that and teach business english etc that sort of thing.

| | | When I first got here during SARS I was getting 275/hr for teaching during the day with no qualifications.
There is much more demand now for teachers now than there was then.

| | | opening a company is very easy!
you can either;
(1)buy a company from an "accountant company"
**they always have many registered companies ready to change ownership!
NOTE: it's very common here that the accountant company has registered companies, as many people would buy this kind of company for purchasing new flat (real estate properties)
(2)going through the process of company registration (but this would take about 1 & a half month)

| | | $100 an hour? Any local university student can get more than that, even tutoring just one person. A native speaker can get $200 or more, but it's small children that can afford to pay. The market here is mainly children. If you want a better rate, you have to find students yourself. | |

yep, start off working for a school part time and rake in the extra cash by doing private tuition! | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 04:36 AM.
