Clubs and so forth Apologies if this is a thread that gets started every 6 weeks but..... Am moving to HK in the New Year with my wife and I am told that the assorted clubs - HKCC, HKFC and so on - are a good way to meet people (especially for my wife who won't be working) and get good facilities as well. Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences they would be kind enough to share? Cheers all!

Chookie, Yes the clubs have great facilities, but you don't need to join one to meet people. There are loads of organizations that organise activties for non-working women. Here are a few. American Women's Assn (my favorite! fun bunch of ladies and its a great place to meet other new expats and explore HK together. you don't need to be American to join) http://www.awa.org.hk The YWCA (English Speaking Dept) http://esmd.ywca.org.hk/ Sign up for the At Home course. Lastly, join us GeoExpaters for our monthly happy hours and dinners. We're a fun bunch! Best of luck! Rani

Clubs are generally very good news. The ones you mention are very sporting and family orientated. I am a member of the football club and its a good way to meet people especially if you are sporty. Tend to be waiting lists for those 2 and expensive although if you are a decent sportsperson then you can get in as a playing member which is the way to go. would definitely reccommend although I'm sure the American ladies get together type thing is a blast too...
