Where to buy fresh asian spices and herbs? I will be relocating to Hk in Jan 06 and was wondering if I can find fresh blue ginger, tumeric, lemon grass, pandan leaf, curry leaf, limau purut anywhere in HK? I love to cook spicy Indonesian, Malaysian and Singaporean dishes and still hope to still cook them in HK.

Wan Chai wet market, Spring Garden Road (near Hennessy Road) There are a few Thai stalls and one "Coconut Shop" selling lots of fresh herbs (including fresh coconut milk if you want to cook nasi lemak) Sometimes you can get some herbs (lemongrass, pandan leaves, chilli padi, galangal etc) from Citysuper and Great and Wellcome (no pandan leaves though) in Westwood (not sure about other Wellcome) There is a very nice Malaysian Restaurant called "Sabah" in Jaffe Road, Wan Chai and Kennedy Town served "quite ok" Malaysian food. Selamat Datang ke Hong Kong!

Wee Kean, Thank You so much for your information. Will take down your information. My husband and I are so used to having spicy food in Singapore that we are afraid that we might get withdrawal symptoms in HK.

I have seen pandan leaves at Great. In fact I bought some just cuz the smell reminds me of our days in Singapore... even the taxis! I so miss Bengawan Solo's Pandan Cake. Do you happen to have a recipe for that exoticgal? I've found some on the net, but would love an authentic one from Sing.

That's great! Have found people in Hk who loves spicy food like me. Well, I will try get the pandan cake recipe if I can find. Anyway, I think I'm quite a good cook and friends have asked me to go over to Hk to give cooking classes on Singaporean, Malaysian and Indonesian specialities (My mum's nonya and mother-in-law is Indonesian)...and my hobby happens to be cooking. In fact, my husband's colleagues' wives wants me to sell them my chilli when we all relocate to Hk in Jan 06. My specialities include, rendang chicken, curry chicken, briyani, hainanese chicken rice, laksa, mee rebus, mee siam, nasi lemak, ayam buak keluak, fishball lemak, tepong tauhu, claypot chicken, grago, kacang lemak, sweet sour fish, sambal chilli goreng, sambal belacan, garlic chilli(for seafood), black pepper crab, papaya titek, and the lists goes on.....making you hungry already? That's why I'm concerned about whether I can get the spices in HK. Otherwise I got to ship it over.

Wow... the list of food you can cook is making me home sick too. You can get pandan leaves from Wanchai too, around HK1 for 4 pieces. Cheapest I can find, Great is pretty expensive. I like to cook too, maybe we should get together and cook a storm! Wee Kean, wanna come by one day? Meng Choo

ms_88... i may have been one of those pandan-cake-bearing people you've seen at the airport! last time we were in Sing we brought back 4! they are so fresh and light as air...mmmmm! Great is a supermarket in the basement of Seibu in Pacific Place. they've been renovating for a couple of months (a real mess!) and they're not carrying their usual selection, but i think it should be over soon (end of Nov?) And, exoticgal, black pepper crab?? Um, will you be my new best friend? I cannot find pepper crab in HK for the life of me. Surely the locals would love it... how could anyone not? Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my chin... Jumbo Seafood at East Coast Park is the best!
