Best Thai Restaurant The best Thai food i have eaten in HK is at Thai Farmer which is a super small Restaurant in Wanchai (98 Lockhart road) I am so addicted to the food here that i dont like Thai food any where else Dont forget to try out the Green Papaya salad. Its Awasome (for people with sensitive taste buds ask them to make it mild) but the best thing is to take it on FULL BLAST!!!!

Khana Khazana is great Indian food, with one of the best Indian buffets as it includes beautiful Masala Dosa. Its twin sister, Branto, in TST has the same great food. Prices there are cheaper, but the buffet is not a good deal and it's not as clean. If you want cheap eats a la carte Branto is fine, otherwise go to Khana Khazana for a great buffet spread and/or nice ambiance. Another worthy option, again Indian veg, is India Palace in TST (beside the HMV) - not much on decor, but it has a nice buffet too (also includes Masala Dosa). Enjoy.

In addition to the Indian veg places I posted earlier, some yay's and nay's on places mentioned by others: THUMBS UP Assaf Restaurant (great Lebanese, at better prices than Beirut, elsewhere - friendly owner, speaks French if you're so inclined) Pizzaria Italia (which I believe recommender meant, not "Pizza Express") on Mosque Street (delivery only, but fantastic pizza - try the four cheese, we've been ordering once a week for four years) BORDERLINE Thai Farmer Hut (used to like this place, but service doesn't seem as friendly and obliging as before - less smiles and no more substituting tofu for us non-meat-eaters at no extra charge on lunch deals) THUMBS DOWN Life (though I'm a vegetarian, can't stand all the put-on pretention of owner Bobsie or the place. Just want some non-meat dishes, not all the poseurism) Last edited by jeffonthego; 17-06-2006 at 01:59 PM.

Best in Central: Gaia (though strictly speaking it's in Sheung Wan) Best in Lan Kwai Fong: I know of nothing that is truly edible in LKF, except maybe Ben and Jerry's... and maybe Kyoto Joe... anyone been to Finds in LKF tower? Best in Causeway Bay: Lei Yuen (I don't even know if they have an English name). Hole-in-the-wall congee and noodle place. their beef brisket noodles and meatball (pork) congee are to die for. right opposite the Lockhart Road exit of Sogo, where the MTR elevator is. Best in TST: Cova (Gateway) though service is better at the Causeway Bay outlet. Best Hotel Restaurants: Gaddi's (the Peninsula Hotel) - before you gasp, it's not so pricey at lunch - HKD300+/head with a glass of wine. excellent service - traditional, yes, but not snobbish. (for a snobbish to the max hotel experience, go to Grissini at the Grand Hyatt, Wan Chai, especially if you're not carrying a designer handbag and are not a gwailo... sheesh...) Best Cantonese Restaurant: Ming Court (Langham Hotel, Mong Kok) Best Dim Sum: Luk Yu (Central) - I know it's featured in tourist guide books and all, but I'm 100% HK Chinese (aussie by naturalisation, but that's another matter) and I love the old-school dim sum and decor to bits. Best Thai Restaurant: I wish I knew - after my fave closed in Kowloon City (and opened crap branches in Causeway etc.) I have to wait for my next BKK trip Rest of the Best: Very decent Japanese (though about HKD700/person incl sake for dinner) - Kanzaman (Island Shangri-la) ...and if you're game, go down to Mong Kok for some street food

Lan Kwai Fong I have to agree with "eat_drink" that Lan Kwai Fong is really bad, overall, some places make you want to shoot the owner after your meal (especially after the bill arrives). But there really is some good food there too, believe it or not. Beirut has wonderful Lebanese food. It's a bit pricey, but you can eat your fill just on appetizers, if you are a small party. It's centrally located for people-watching, if you're doing drinks after work, or you can sit upstairs for a quiet meal. Just next door, down the stairs is Ebeneezers which is a fast food joint serving middle-eastern food for Americans (kebabs, Biryanis, etc. But whatever you want to call it, everything is quite yummy and for just $40 dollars. Cul-de-sac is pretty good, too. I go for the hamburgers, but they also serve hotdogs, even salads and other things. The hamburgers are less greasy and fresher (and smaller) than the ones at the American Diner. (Perfect for me.) Zhou Mama's is sincerely made Sichuanese food, that is, hot enough to blow your socks off. For non-Sichuanese, they do label their little lunch menu with degrees of "hotness"? The dinner is more elaborate but no less hot. They're hidden away upstairs in that little doorway to the right of of the American diner. Post97 has a terrific brunch at a reasonable price. Dinner is good too. illy's is great, not just the best coffee in the world, but great Italian food (not sure it counts as being in Lan Kwai Fong). Speaking of Italian food, I used to love Va Bene, but last time I went, the food was really disappointing, so I've stopped going. Not sure if that was a fluke or what. Bamboo has nice Malaysian food. So, after all, there are some good places to eat in Lan Kwai Fong, and not all of them overpriced. And these are just the ones that I know of.
