Thumbs up Best of the Rest

Another cheapy but goody: Wang Fu
98-102 Wellington St., Central
2 shops: the original one with the yellow sign serves basically Beijing Dumplings, and the other across the street serves other (Beijing style) food as well. A favorite with homesick Beijingers. The owner is a retired Chemistry teacher with a thick Beijing accent. She's really got a touch with simple foods that look plain but taste great.

The dumpling skins have gotten a bit soggier over time, but still taste good, but there's so much other good food there, it's worth going back over and over to try them all.

Sincere, tasty, cheap Vietnamese pho shop. Run by two Australian Vietnamese brothers, it's just a cheap little noodle shop frequented mostly by locals. But the pho is really much better than any other that I've tasted in Hong Kong, for example the famous "Pearl Vietnam" near Lan Kwaifong clearly run by Chinese who don't quite get what Vietnamese pho is supposed to taste like.

I have to agree with that. Proper Pho that place I tell thee!

should try Nga Trang (vietnamese, i think that's how you spell it). it's across from Wang Fu on Wellington Str (as mentioned by renHK). they don't have a lot on their menu but what they do have is very good. highly recommend the beef noodle & vietnamese spring rolls. often packed by 7:30pm, cash only.

food

Erm ...

Maxims at the star ferry does the best hot dogs as far as im aware...

Fat Angelos near the hopewell center in wanchai is great. massive servings. little on the pricy side but you do get what you pay for.

in centrel.... i would say Ole's on ice house street... i think you might have to book but its the only one that really springs to mind....

If your feeling game the Sanpan in repulse bay can be alright.... even if it is just for a beer on the beach :P

There are some good Thai resteraunts in i think its Murry house in Stanly...

Dan Ryans is always great for a steak or a Hamburger... can be found in Ocean Terminal or Pacific Place.

Those are the ones that spring to mind right off the cuff

James

The one in Mui Wo just by the ferry pier gets good reviews, but I haven't had the chance to eat there yet...
