Thank you so much for your detail infos. I got a room with Holiday Inn on Flinders, not as expensive as I thought. Thanks a bunch Mick!!! I hope that we can see the fireworks! It ll be our 1st trip there! We cant wait!

Hey Reni,

Holiday Inn on Flinders - you'll be a stones throw from everything! If you have never been to Melbourne b4, a word of advice.... pack for 4 seasons in one day. Not kidding. last year just b4 christmas (peak summer, obviously) Melbourne had a day that was so cold they had snow in them thar' hills - almost. In reality, it can be stifling hot, or bitterly cold with a breeze that will chill you to the bone. Generally summer weather is awesome, but Melb does get some amazing weather shifts, often in the space of a day. Pack summer stuff, and a good jacket etc. and never leave without the jacket!

hope you like al fresco cafe culture - that's melbournes "speciality"

Gd advice there..

I just got back from melbourne on the 17th Dec. It might have been summer there but i swear i'm glad i brought a jacket.

Then again, it depends on where u come from. I went frm Singapore to Melbourne and Singapore is freaking hot (nearly 30 degrees celcius). Melbourne's summer on the contrary is ard 20 odd or even 10 when it rains or when their strong winds blow.

Crown's a great place. haha.. i was camping there everynite of my trip. Then again, i m there everynite for all my 3 trips to melbourne in this 2 yrs. But its definitely my first time there in "summer" summer.

One thing to note, there's a plenty of irritating flies on the streets. bring a scarf or something to help u flick them away if u are planning to walk ard the streets.

Must try: Cafe Greco. It sells the most awesome cakes! & try the Gelatti at Lygon st. Their best selling is the Durian and the Ferre Roche ones. & if u are a big time chocolate lover, go Koko black! They have it at Bourke St which is in the city!

Hey Adante,

not meaning to be picky, but today in melbourne is 35degrees and no escaping the heat. even the wind is hot. but yes, from the looks of things, there will be a cold change tonight, maybe snow

great advice on lygon st, cafe greco et al. ackland st in St Kilda is worth a trip, also a few places in fed square (choclate budha etc). however, there is so many nice places in melb i'm at a loss to recommend anymore!

I wished i had a chance at 35 degrees in Melbourne! I actually brought my sleeveless tops for my trip hoping to wear them for the clubs. never got the chance.
