Question How Much is that Doggy in the Window??....

Looking for a little puppy (preferably a small poodle cause they don't lose their hair all over the place) and am looking for some guidance as to expected cost (purchase), places to buy, and typical cost of having a puppy in HK (food, vet, etc).

Any takers?

I'm really keen and can't wait to spoil it rotton...

You might be better of looking at the local SPCA for abandoned pets, rather than pay some ruthless breeder.

Agree with Rani on this one, I've seen prices of puppies start from $1600 up to $6500 and no doubt certain breeds will cost even more, shocking prices.

interesting concept.. the value of a life. i love (not) that attitude of a sector of society back in Oz where if someone has a cat, and it was sick/hit by car etc, and it was gunna cost over $200AUD ($1200HK) to fix it, the owner would prefer to put it to sleep and get another one... i mean, why would you spend that much on a cat, when u can get a new one for $60? obviously there a re some of us that have no value for (of?) life...

i'd prefer someone spent that money, say $6k, on a pet, because it means that same person may have the resources and the care enough to pay for the potential illnesses of the pet. also, it is a big investment, and not one a kid would make on a whim. anything cheaper, and little consideration goes into the purchase.

but yes, once again, any pet charity that saves pets dumped by society, is a much better prefernce than buying from a pet shop that pays breeders to keep "whelping machines" alive. just be careful you are not picking up someones dog that has some bad habits - often there is a reason why they have no home... and sometimes that reason is b/c of the pet's behaviur... but generally it is because of human behaviour.. unsavoury little creatures, humans are...

and if u do go to a charity/SPCA and save an el-cheapo stray hound, donate the balance of the $6k to the charity - it will save the misery of numerous little 4 legged beasties, and give u that warm fuzzy feeling u get after doing something cool

Hey Curly,

did u end up getting your hound?

You're not going to be one of "those" people that dress their doggy up, are you?
