Chinese Silk, Chopsticks, etc..

Where is the best place to get Chinese knick knacks like chopstick sets, painted bottles, paper cuttings, etc? I've seen shops at the Peak and Stanley, but I'm wondering if there is somewhere cheaper.

You could try the street markets in Wan Chai and Central (Li Yuen Street)

speaking of such things..

how difficult would it be to get a seal [chop?] made from a custom design?

for my impending marriage [our honeymoon to be in HK ] i designed a simple seal which incorporates my last name [as a chinese character] and the letter 'M' [her last name]..

i designed it with the view to getting a proper stamp made, and it's only just occured to me that i might be able to get a good one made in HK..

any thoughts anyone?

maybe i should start my own thread about this..

Just went to Mongkok few days ago. There is a shop specialised in selling chopsticks ( good quality ones, not like market). They're lovely and well packed. The price is from HK80 (4 pairs with stands, box) to 800 or so. It's right opposite to the New Pizza Hut in Mongkok.

Depends on the quality of the stuff that you're looking for and whether you intend to give them as gifts. For quality stuff and really beautiful packaging, you should check out the Chinese arts and craft centres in Kowloon (by from the Star Ferry) and the larger one in Wan Chai on Harbour Road.

For cheaper stuff, there are tons in the Night Market and Mongkok.
