I am leaning towards the IBM, even though the Dells get surprisingly high ratings from reviewers. Any suggestions for where to get best pricing and service/support for Thinkpads??

Can you install an off the shelf copy of XP on Thinkpads? I gave up on them when I had to deal with reinstalling windows and you needed half a dozen proprietary drivers from IBM to make the damn thing work (late 90s).

I suspect you cannot... but you never know, perhaps they've changed their ways.

Jimbo, thanks for the great news! I have always loved using Acer. In fact my first laptop from the early 90s was made by Acer (they had a different name then). I'm using one at work and it works brilliantly for me. Weight is very important because I would like to be able to carry with me when I travel, and I am not very strong ;-P
Max, the red version of the Ferrari Acer is my dream machine, but it weights a ton!

Did some scouting today and it is looking like the Thinkpad R52 - decent prices and seems to be a good machine for the price. Have priced at Windsor House and Wanchai Computer Center - are these two places indicative of the lowest pricing, or should I look elsewhere?
Thanks for all the comments/suggestions.

Two more quick questions:
1) If I want to buy Dell, where/how do I do that in HK?
2) If I want to buy an IBM Thinkpad, where should I buy it - Wanchai Computer Center, Windsor House, etc.? Any particular store?
Thanks.
