u wear like for a western wedding. Suit is fine. Usually you do not bring gift but a Lai Si (red envelop with money inside). The amount of money you donate will differ whether you come alone, in couple, or in couple with kids....that's usually how it works.
Remember to put your name on the envelop (yeah it's like this) so that everybody know you have donated......

Minimum runs about $500 per person (pays for the dinner and a little bit more...)

what 'activities' do they actually have at a chinese wedding ?

E.g, do we have to burn incense and participate in religious activities etc even if we are not Buddhist ?

Sorry I have never been to one before ..........

I guess you have been invited to the banquet where you don't need to do anything besides eating and drinking..

Usually you eat and then when the desert comes (around 11.00) all the guests live in a rush.
There is no activties, ifyou are lucky sometimes they do organise a kind of Karaoke or Lucky draw but that's it nothing else....u usually eat the same things (Young Pig, Shark Fin soup, Abalone,.....) in more or less the same order and that'sit more or less....the fun part is before the banquet (morning and afternoon) but you have to be a close friend or relative to take part at those activites (tea ceremony...)

Remember to sit next to someone who can translate for you during the evening. Otherwise you might be bored.

there are usually games for the bride and groom to play... it's usually the groom's friends that come up with them ( the bride's friends do it to the groom before the actual ceremony)...

i'm canadian, but my hubby is local chinese... we had a chinese wedding here
and a western wedding in canada
