We did. You need a bank account here. I think we had to get a letter from my husband's company about salary etc. Maybe some info from your last bank back home? Sorry, it was a while ago so my memory is a bit fuzzy on it, but I know it can be done!
As a newcomer to HK, I enquired about applying for a credit card at HSBC but was told that it's standard policy that the bank has to see 3 direct deposit salary payments in your account before they can determine whether or not they can issue you a credit card. I even showed them my contract but still no dice...
NOt sure about other banks but I assume it's standard everywhere?
Let me know if you find a bank that'll issue you a card right away. Cheers.
With HSBC..we had to wait for 3 months(as dezza also said) before we applied for the credit card...
however, if u have had an account with the same bank back home, i have heard with job contract papers,it may be possible..
good luck
Can I apply for a credit card straight after I arrive in HK? what procedures are involved?
Hi,
My bf arrived in Jan this year. He has only got a bank account in HSBC but he never deposits any money there. He's got paid check and he just cashed it.
He just sucessfully applied for a gold visa card from BEA bank. No need to submit 3 months salary bank statement. Took about 3 weeks to process. You may give it a try.
