Flights to New Zealand

I'm planning a trip to New Zealand in late December - Early January. Best fare on Zuji is around 4400hkd.

Is there any way I can do better than that? Maybe by flying through another city?

Any New Zealand recommendations? Right now I'm thinking we will spend most of our time on the south island.

I found the prices on Expedia, Zuji and the Air NZ site to differ greatly. If you have the patience and ability to be flexible check out the pricing on either side of your preferred dates becasue the prices can vary alot.
You can fly direct into Christchurch if you are mainly interested in the the south but I'm not positive you can do this direct from HK. Driving the South Island is the way to go - we hired a Subaru Legacy 4wd from Apex rent a car and found it to be an excellent choice for some of the more remote areas. As for places to stay you can't beat Bella Vista Motels - they are clean, cheap, everywhere, excellent locations and really well appointed - Jasons is the site to look at for other accomodation http://www.jasons.co.nz/index.cfm?country=nz

are you talking one way or return? either way, that is a pretty decent price considering it is december. actually, it is a pretty decent price full stop. I think to expect better than that is a bit hopeful. that's better than the sort of money I have paid to to and from Oz from HK as a "sale" price.

Where to find that cheap price HKD 4,400 to New Zealand??
Every time I paid over HKD 6,500 for round trip with direct flight to Auckland even not during peak season, and indirect ones ever saw over HKD 5,000.

Instead of looking online, why not try your "friendly neighborhood travel agent"? I'm sure in most cases they will be able to match any online offer if not better it.

That fare turned up on Zuji but most dates are sold out. Looks like we'll be flying Air New Zeland for around $8000, which will get us to Christchurch.

As far as a travel agent, I've never really used them... back where I came from it always seemed faster and cheaper to book online. Granted that may be the case here.. might have to change my ways.

Just FYI, CX's best published fare to CHC (via AKL with the AKL-CHC on QF) is HK$7740+tax for 3/30 days, booked in M, not valid 15-24 Dec or 20 Jan - 5 Feb.
