Cool Tips needed for total beginner

Hi,

I am taking a big step by moving from the UK to Hong Kong early next year. I've been offered a job there and I have accepted it.

One thing : I am a complete beginner in respect of the Far East.

I'd appreciate any tips & hints any of you may have. Basic dos & don'ts.

My particular interest is sailing. I am a beginner there, too, but have done the Round the Island this year. Ideally I'd like to join a Yacht Club in Hong Kong so that I can go crewing for people at weekends and get more experience.

Thanks in advance.

Getting Started In Hk

Hey Muad'Dib,

I was a member of the yatch club for most of my growing years in HK - highly recommend it! As for settling in HK, your bargening power lays in your language skills - try to pick up some Chinese before you get here - the locals love a "gwai low" who makes an effort! Also there are some weekly magazines circulating that are especially helpful in keeping non-locals informed about HK - try out these sights: www.hk.bcmagazine.net & www.asia-city.com/acpg.html

let me know if these links helped!

GOOD LUCK!

Not the first time that people resurrect very old threads.

Cool Oops!!

Sorry guys, but somebody else, like yourselves, might track back and read some of the older threads. I admit I should have looked at the posted date, but anyway, the effort I put into it might not go to complete waste!
