I don't think you'll see any cost savings coming from the US. In fact, the Mac's I've bought new over here are generally at least $50-$100 US more than their US counterparts. Coming from the UK is another story...

But if you can wait--WAIT! There are plenty of rumors of new powerbooks in the Spring with Intel chips. Check around the apple secret sites.

lmao..... What the hell made you think I was American ??!?!?!!? (I take that as a personal insult, being an english girl....) . Looks like I'm waiting until next year if (hopefully!) it's spring time, they're due....

There are now rumours that the powerbooks with intel chips will launch early at Macworld in January. I would wait a few weeks before ordering one, to make sure any early manufacturing problems are corrected.

I don't think the programmer can write the Mac OSX for Intel chip on time

*NOTE: this OSX version won't run in a PC computer.
it is still only for Mac computer with INTEL CPU..

I bought my 14" iBook G4 with 1.42GHzprocessor and 1GB RAM for just under 10k- it is much better dollar for dollar value than any PC laptops. The Designer Group (another Mac dealer in HK) is doing some really good deals on new machines at the moment.

hola all, i will be in Hk end of january, was wondering what the prices are like for powerbook ram?

i have a 12" and need to up the ram so i can install tiger..

i'm hoping that although apple stuff may not be any cheaper than here [in australia], that reputable third party stuff might be worth searching for..

You need to bear in mind that the Apple community here is not as big as in Australia and the USA where education gets big discounts and diy computing is not as popular.

cheers.. i just checked the aus and hk sites, and the prices for a 15" PB is about aus$300 cheaper.. might have to check out the HK store for all the extra stuff i've been putting off getting..

i suppose it's a currency rate fluctuation thing..
