Rock star's concert a complete fiasco

Hong Kong's inflated claim as "Asia's world city" again rings hollow as myself and hundreds more witnessed the debacle of the Ronan Keating concert at the Convention and Exhibition Centre last Wednesday night. What should have been a memorable evening was ruined by the management's amateurish attempt to stage an international event.
The inadequate barriers, floor-level rows of chairs and hopelessly inexperienced staff, contributed to making the Grand Hall a volatile venue.


The moment Ronan came on stage the majority of the crowd was allowed to surge forward, with no regard for the safety of others. Children as young as six were left without a view of the stage and, in some cases, without a seat, most of which had cost $680. After complaints were made by parents the show was stopped and people were asked to return to their seats, a request which was completely ignored.

It is high time that organisers got their act together and invested in some training and advice for their staff and management.
