Word, Phoenixchan198, I'm from NYC too and the scene and clubbing culture here is totally different. Going out for a quiet drink after work by yourself or going to check out a DJ and listen to some tunes alone just isnt done here. But then again if you dont really give a f*ck what people think (I find lots of locals like to stare), then just go ahead and do it, no reason to let that get in the way of your fun & social life. Theres a great little bar called Yumla in Soho with a lot of casual, easygoing people and folks that just go there for the music (its got some of the best DJs in town playing there regularly). Check it out. At least you can still smoke in bars here, unlike NYC!

Well said. I find going solo is more entertaining because I have always met a group of people while out and ended up tagging along/ making great friends... I like the "who am I going to meet tonight?" part of starting the night alone.

disclaimer: This doesn't mean hooking up, just being social with other people and getting together to chat.

hey, i read you post back from november about going clubbing solo. You've been here for about a month now, and i'm sure you have friends now...
i'm back in hong kong from school, and none of friends are here.. and i'm to chicken to club solo. so if you need someone to go with i guess... i'm free..
or just to meet someone new.

Heya!
I'm based in Sydney but I also used to live in HK when I was a tiny tot. I'm coming back for Chinese NY for 2 weeks (26th Jan - 11 Feb) and find myself in a dilemma where I love to party, but I'm out of date with venues, and no one I know is around anymore.
I don't mind partying solo cause I'm mainly there for the tunes and more often than not I do meet people, but it is also nice to have people to go with.

If you can wait a month the_vial, I'm keen!

Also, if anyone is keen on skiing for maybe 3 days in Korea in the second week of Feb, let me know... I'm a little snow bunny!

Smile Clubbing Solo

Hi,
I am from Hong Kong but seldom "clubs". I recently move my home near Lan Kawi Fong and wanna experience clubbing. Cos I find no friend who could spend time with this, would anyone like to go clubbing together also? I am also sensitive to people's eyes if clubbing alone. Glad that there's people feeling the same.

My email: cillyng@hotmail.com. Feel free to have a chat.

I've been clubbing alone once, when I first got back to HK from NY. It was horrible...lol. First of all, it was just such a shock to be back after so long...met a few people there that I know (one from SIS, interestingly enough). I went to SIS myself...you can't get away from us mate.

What are you majoring in at HKU? If you've got the balls to do it, go for it, nobody has to know you're alone, you can just say your friends left or something if you don't wanna scare the girls away...lol. Or that you're waiting for someone to show.

Personally, I like to have at least one person with me when I'm out, so even if I have an uneventful night with the ladies, I can still shoot the shit and get pissed. So to speak.

Very interesting!!!!~

Came across this forum and I think it to be quite interesting. I was in fact looking for listings of bars with live music to check out tonite. What makes this forum interesting to me is that I was planning on going "solo". I got relocated to HK from TW, originally from Canada, about a couple months back. But I guess making the adjustment with the move here, with both living and working, it's taken me a bit longer to get "localized". Mostly just hanging out with visitors, which makes my leisure time very touristy. Thinking it's time for me to take that first step across the boarder between "a Tourist" to "hey! I actually live here now!", thats when I decided to check out some Live Music. I picked up a lot of good vibe in this forum and it seems that people are not as estranged as I have thought to be. Guess what I'm saying is that all your postings kinda made me feel more positive about the whole situation, and that there are others walking the same path as me. Anyway, like I mentioned earlier, I'll be venturing out tonite, after which, I'd be more then glad to share my experiences with others in regards to the "solo" topic. But if there is any opportunities in the near future share the same experience with others alike, that would be even better!!!
