i agree with what goodman and jenniferc said. hk is a very outer-directed place and people just follow whatever is 'hot' at the moment. they love to follow trends and celebrities and seem to do a lot of things just because they believe it is 'cool'.

Baron is an unknown quantity at this point.
But hasn't that always been the case in every country? A lot of people go for looks over brains first up, then they soon realize that looks wear off after a while and you need more...a lot more! If you have no personality, you are not worth the time.

I was born in Hong Kong and currently living in Australia, totally agree with Baron, no offence, but who says some Aussie girls aren't materialistic. It 's all the same everywhere, just depend on the people you know and the experience you have. I know heaps of Hongkie girls that ain't materialistic at all, or put it that way, i know heaps of Hongkie girls with big boobies.

I like the direction where this thread is heading.. Let's see for how long till someone locks it

Suddenly I remembered something that Eric Idle said in his prologue for the movie "The Meaning of Life".

just to play devil's advocate for a while here:

While HK is a perfect place for a 20something male, you will need to realize that you will work a LOT more than usual back home. I know of only very few cases where the workload here was similar to what they were used to back home...

But, even with that weighed into my decision, I dont regret moving to HK in the least.

Yours truly,
working on saturday

Most chinese girls I know who go out with westerners only like them for their a) money and/or b) they don't usually have much contact with white men (apart from the media) and they think its very cool and different... because of this, they develop this mentality that all white men are attractive when no offense, the majority of which here really aren't.... and then because these average looking western men are doted on by chinese girls, they make the most of it and love it here. However, if they actually went back from wherever they came from, they'd just be average and probably unable to get the attention they get from chinese girls here.

My 2 cents
wow. that's a bit tough. do i sense some distaste or something here?

ok, i guess one could say that, yeah, some pretty ordinary white guys here get a lot more attention than they would at "home", however, i do think that your explanations as to why locals girls are interested, eg lack of contact with white guys, money etc are a little outdated. there is (and has been for quite a while) a large expat community, so the contact has been there. i'm told the "glow" of having a white bloke has dropped dramatically since 98, now that HK locals can travel/emigrate a lot easier than b4 etc (as i say, this is hear-say).

re paperbag girls - that is rough. there are some nice looking girls, and not all of them are as you describe. and i am married, not looking, so not a biased opinion here. not all are skinny and as you describe.

i do think your post is a little heavy handed, i'm sorry! are you jealous that mr average is able to have some fun here? does this peeve you? it makes me laugh (as i say, i am not looking, and i think i am mr "less than average", he he he) that some people get the pips with the guys getting this attention. let them. if no one gets hurt, why begrudge it? most of them are aware of the fact that when they got off the flight they didn't turn into some handsome debonaire and sophisticated person instantly, and they can form their own opinions of why they are so "popular". and if they stay and enjoy forever, so what. 2 happy people getting what they want. just b/c u are shitty that some bland borish guy is getting more attention than you ever got in a bar. accept it as part of HK. enjoy it

HK is a great place to enjoy a different lifestyle, and still be able to buy/see/do some things u could at "home". come here with eyes wide open (and look out for all these C cups ...) and you will have fun. just avoid the cranky expats making snide remarks at the local girls dating expat guys... (ducks for cover)..

cosmokat will become famous soon enough
Come 'on, to say HK girls aren't known for curves, figure, looks..that is such an overgeneralization. I think in probably almost every race and country, the number of "not so attractive" exceed the "attractive." Most seem to generalize only the blonde, blue-eyed are blessed with the looks. Sorry, I'm from the States and I've been to London a number of times and we all know where the most obese reside. There are so many unattractive people there. If you really look at the ratio of attractive to non-attractive, it is all relative.
