I am jealous!

For some unexplained reasons, women hanging around clubs and bars tend to be attracted to guys with blonde hair and blue eyes. Western men seem to have the advantage. It’s not fair! I think women who frequent bars and clubs are typically more educated and have better paying jobs and thus have a more westernized life style. But that’s just my opinion. I’d like to hear from the women points of view. To be honest, HK men are just not as adventurous and bold with women as western men. I hope I am not going get beat up by saying this. I worked with a lot of engineers in my field who have been to HK and China for assignments, I have yet to hear anyone who didn’t like living in HK for the same reasons posted here. As for the size of the living quarters, maybe that’s why people don’t want to go home and for the same reason, the street are packed with people; especially in the Causeway Bay and the upper Nathan Rd districts. Before I get in trouble, I‘d better say no more…..

I'm looking forward to living in a LARGER space in Hong Kong than what I live in now in Stockholm--a mere 26 sq.m (about 250 sq. ft??)--and we are two adults and a cat :-) In Stockholm, money may not get you a larger rental flat... the system is very complicated and corrupt. There is a common queue for rental apartments and the average waiting time for a flat in a central location is about 20 years. And of course, being taxed two-thirds of your income (in real terms) doesn't give you much leeway to pay for a larger place.

Wow, a waiting list for rental for 20 years. It must feel good to be a landlord. Most Americans do not appreciate the freedom of America until they live in another country. This is no bull! I’ve been to many countries, talked to the locals and experienced the lives as the locals. As tough and expensive as California is in terms of cost of housing and living necessities, I think it’s still cheaper than some European countries. We are paying $3 a gallon on gas, we are screaming. Most European countries have paid that for years. Everything is cheap in US when compared to Europe. But HK is a bargain if you are not eating extravagantly. Middle class families can afford to live in a 2000 sf brand new home in the suburb, not in the metro though. But if you don’t have a huge mortgage, you don’t need to work in a big city.

But I can't stress enough how good HK is if you're a guy in your 20's and single and like to socialise and are not totally strapped for $$$$$$$$. There are very fit women all over the place and you very very rarely get meatheads causing trouble on a night out here, unlike back home.
Make the move man, and i'll show you a few bars.

i been back to hk every year for the at least the last 13 yrs and I have struggled to see one decent looking chick on the streets. are these 'fit' women hong kong girls or international girls?

anyway i just turned 21 and i'm coming in jan and hoping to hit a few clubs this time. what clubs do you go to??

You are in luck. There are plenty of apartments LARGER than 300sqft.

And mostly there is not any waiting time. If you can afford to pay HK$ 300,000 - HK$ 900,000 per month, you can even live on The Peak.

The downside is, that regardless of the size, many apartments have the same number of rooms. Don't know why.
300sqft with 3 bedrooms + living room is different from a 300sqft studio. A <4 sqm bedroom is not uncommon.

HK is full of paperbag girls meaning fit from the neck down... well actually no, just skinny. Most being chinese have no curves and are as flat as a ruler. If these are the fit girls that people are talking about then, fair enough but I wouldn't have thought that was what most men go for!

Most chinese girls I know who go out with westerners only like them for their a) money and/or b) they don't usually have much contact with white men (apart from the media) and they think its very cool and different... because of this, they develop this mentality that all white men are attractive when no offense, the majority of which here really aren't.... and then because these average looking western men are doted on by chinese girls, they make the most of it and love it here. However, if they actually went back from wherever they came from, they'd just be average and probably unable to get the attention they get from chinese girls here.

My 2 cents

i do have a chinese gf for a couple of years now and that was not for money....She actually never chose me for money or cos I am white or whatsoever...I think this view is a bit too general...yes in many bars/disco you will find a lot of hungry white guys and a lot of ready-to-do-anyhting asian girls...but that isn't most of the chinese. They are over 3 millions chinese/asian girls in HK....only a couple of them hang out with gweilos....

JenC does present some very valid points. There are incidences of such behavior amongst local women towards dating western men. But then again, this is an unfair generalization. The majority of which may not subscribe to this line of thought, as Mat mentioned.

The point is, not all genuine, sincere, down-to-earth local women go to such bars and clubs; and if you're looking for one, then you certainly won't find them there. Try broadening your search to include other activities. You'll be surprised with what you encounter Good luck!
