Should i bring only Handbags that close? (ladies you know what i mean)

hi -
first time post ... long time listener. my fiance just found out that he will need to start work in Hong Kong right after our wedding next year! and i've never been to Hong Kong ...

I'm planning to bring very little clothes and sell the rest (so i can get custom when i move to hong kong!). I am considering selling some of my handbags as well. In hong kong, should i be concerned about pickpockets? Should i sell all my open-at-the-top handbags?

Appreciate all the helpful advice posted on this website and look forward to meeting everyone!

pickpockets are not serious in HK but it happens. Just keep an eye on it.

I'm not a lady, but have heard from female friends with experience that it's wise to keep an eye open when in MTR, bus, pub, etc. Especially so if you ever travel across the border into Shenzhen. Otherwise the city is quite safe :-)

Where are you coming from ? Why would you be selling all your clothes ? If you've been on the forum long enough i'm sure you must have noticed the many threads on "where to get normal sized clothes' ! Girls here are very petite and clothes in larger sizes are not very easily available. Of course if you are petite it should not be a problem. It's just that me and everyone I know buy clothes, shoes when we go back home cause we don't find what we like here.

Thats funny. I also moved to Hong Kong exactly 7 days after I got married. I have been in Hong Kong for two months now.

It was a v busy time I can tell you!

Oh, I have absolutely no useful advice to offer you regarding handbags.

Hi,

I've only been here a few weeks and so far not problems with open top bags. I think the same common sense would apply here as it would in any large city. I don't think HK has a large pickpocket problem.

Hope this helps!

there are some problems in TST and Mongkok area, but then, just be a bit careful, and use some common sense, otherwise there is no problem.

THANK YOU to everyone for the quick replies! I will keep my bags after all. it sounds like living here in nyc - just be aware of what's going on around you.

scr - appreciate your concern. actually, i am super tiny so i'm pretty excited to get tons of new clothes made in h.k.!
