has anyone seen the teletext test transmission available on the chanenl which is postion23 but only seems to be available to the kwong wah housing block near yin chong street - you need a pci tv tuner for your pc if your tv doesnt support teletext of which i have seen none here in hong kong
i was also trying to use the tv tuner as an input for a digital camera so that the digital camera would work as a webcam but unfortunately pccw's internet 'broadband - yeah sure its downloading at 20kilo bytes persecond - your engineer has visited the site and when the test laptop software showed 300kilobytes per second you concluded that this was a satisfactory test result but surely 6megabits per second is supposed to show 732 kilobytes per second and anything under 5 megabits per second means that the louzy tv service which you claim uses 5 megabits per second of the internet conection cant fundtion properly - is that why the picture quality is so poor and the sound also and why doenst it support teletext - for channels like bbc prime where subtitles are available i n ten languages it would make the subtitle button pushers of your new remote control exceedingly happy as it stands the button does naff all
cheers pccw 224$ per month for what exactly cant you even guarantee download speeds from key websites like microsoft or intel or amd or nvidia or ati oh nevermind...

You are so on the ball with your complaints. I can't agree more. Sadly, this is the state of things here. Teletext has been available in the UK for as long as I can remember and yet we get zilch. Another major gripe I have is the absence of any timer programming and a back button to go back to the last viewed channel.

Well that may have been because of the way i-cable delivers its data. It runs a backbone through a housing block and all users share it. PCCW and other ADSL providers run a unique line to your wall outlet. If you live in a block with a large number of users you will suffer. I had i-cable when I lived in a 10-storey block and it was excellent at any time of the day.

Talking

BT uses some ports that are not probably open by default on your router. I would recommend doing some google searches and following the instructions for opening the ports to raise your D/L speeds immensely.

If you are worried about the 'man' kicking in your door, you could always stick a machine by the window and search for open wifi ports and 'borrow' someone elses pipe to do your naughty things. Just make sure your computer is named something like "CIA Laptop #2" or something so if the person (who is leaving open their wifi) could be scared if they ever look at the logs :-)

I never used I-cable so i wouldnt know about them, i did how ever use HKBN before.
I seen alot of people complain about HKBN, but compared to my so called 6mb dsl from pccw that i have now, well then HKBN was a god send, the one and only reason why i switched to ppcw was the channels i can enjoy on occation with good sound and non distorted picture.
The only downside i ever encounterd with HKBN was with the DNS.
This is why i posted before if anyone has ever tried the "dreamtv" satpack they sell in Sham sui po and other places.
I know its a b**** to position dish for the sat feed if you never done it before, but with a sat finder that extra and so very important fine tuneing can be done easy, and those sell for about 300HKD.
probably wont solve the annoying cencurs in movies and such but hopefully it can stop the feeling of having the movies narrated by Microsoft's sam :P

microsoft security update removed 10 gig of bittorrent files from hard disc

a microsft security update deleted 10 gigbytes of data from my hard disc originating from bit torrent software - none of the hard disc manufacturers will supply a piece of software to recover the files -
Also why does pccw advertise 6megabits per second broadband when the service is incredibly substandard tried a plethora of sites mainly computer manufacturers - intel, amd, asus, msi, abit, tekram, - graphics card manufacturers nvidia and ati download speeds were appalling around 20K upto 100K if i was lucky the engineer tested the line and the software test program to check the available bandwidth showed 19 times out of twenty a connection speed of around 200K bytes which is less than **½ the advertised speed and bizarre as pccw claimed that the now tv service uses 5megabits per second of the broadband speed when you are watching the tv service and using the internet leaving one megabit per second for the internet yet the engineers test clearly shows that there isnt enough bandweidth for the tv service maybe thats why the picture and sound quality were so poor and there is no teltext service which would be really useful here in china as there are so many different languages i have stumbled on four as i crossed china from pakistan through tibet to sechuan province and finally to hong kong where i was sent by the chinese police with a free flight and visa despite my protestations - i had a burmese visa and even though the flight to burma was cheaper they forced me to go to hong kong after they had broken the law on more than three occassions in chinese police stations by asking me for a visa - i had spent three months in china wihtout a valid visa the last one i was given by the authorities in north korea unnescessarily - the north koreans' rely upon a rediculous blue piece of paper which they claim is your official travel document in the country though if you ask them not to stamp the entry stamp in your passport when you enter as i did on the train or possibly at the airport - then you should be able to return to china on the same chinese visa and not require a double entry visa as they mistakenly claim by simply asking the chinese police to cancel the exit stamp when you return to china after your ten day trip - which they want you to pay £700 for including the train and hotel and food and a jam packed itinerary of brain washing where russian tanks suddenly become korean even though the british and the americans helped the russians build the darn things in the first place - such is life !
good luck with your downloads i was trying to use a VIVO ( video input and video ouput graphics card - as only these include encoding chips which can be used in conjunction with a tv tuner to encode video to mpegII high quality format on 600mhz machine - i also managed to get msn messenger and yahoo messenger to recognise the tv tuner as the input device for the webcam but had to open the tv tuner software before the messenger software and select the av composite input in order to get the messneger software to recognise the non default input - in this case from a digital camera enabling it to be used as a veryt high quality webcam and soon - with the VIVO grpahics card any digital camera will be capable of encoding to mpegII format video!
any of you guys use linux?
any of you interested in video encoding and editing
i am trying to find a further 85 people interested in buying a vivo graphics card from ati the 9250 256MB version will go in any pcmin spec 600mhz processor for mpegII encoding

Roger, if there was a sprinkling of punctuation in your post, some of us might have a clue of how to respond to your (probably very interesting) points...
