If you are buying a new sofa, sometimes that company will remove the old sofa for you.

Might help to ask the management if they'll take it away.

In our building the cleaners will cart away the old stuff for a couple of hundred dollars. On the other hand, the management ninjas would be on our doorstep if anything was left in the stairwell.

IKEA and other companies will also take your old furniture off your hands if you arrange it with them, for a small fee.
