Thought I'd say Hi and welcome to Angela and Katherine.

Angela, you mention local guys in tst, The problem you will find is that your typical hk guy is pretty shy and will find it very hard to approach you I'm afraid.

Come out with some of us to one of the dinner meets and maybe you'll get to meet some local guys via one of us.

I'm in the same situation as you, where some of my friends have returned back to u.k and I don't really know that many people here in hk. So thats why I'm here on the boards to meet people and have a good time socially.

Dinner etc

Well, maybe I will. Thanks. When's the next?

For me, it depends on day, time, accessibility, my energy level, how many meetings I've had to attend that week (I get all talked out, and just need to withdraw, regroup and restore my energies), but sure, I'd like to come sometime.

A.

A guy from Sun Po Kung

Hi Catherine,
Well, I found your post quite interesting. I used to live in San Po Kung; King Fook st to be exact which is behind Hong Kung St years ago. The building at the corner of Choi Hung Rd and King Fook St. used to be the biggest theater in HK that had supposedly 3000 seats and a beautiful theater it was. During the real estate boom and the decline of the movie goers, the Lai Koung theater had finally met it’s fate. San Po Kung has changed through the years. It was a factory district that supported many type of jobs for the HK people as well as a few foreigner in the late 70’s and 80’s. I was an early teenager then. By now, I think you will agree that I am qualified to reply. Now I made Silicon Valley my home but I’ve back to visit many times to see the old building I once called home. I go to HK every coupe of years because there is still part of me for some reason that just keeps me wanting to go back. It’s a unique place like nowhere else. I have been to Melbourne, London, Sydney, Toronto and Singapore, but none seems to be the same as HK; though I can explain it. I would like to someday go back to HK to stay. For now, my everything is here. I wish you good luck with your new life in HK.

Here's me:

Forty-something. Been in Hong Kong since July. I work for a great company, but I'm the only American there (I'm from New York). I'm not into the bar scene -I was many years ago, but now I'm just not. So how do forty-something females who are unmarried and new in town spend their weekends? How do I meet other people like me (I'm not looking to meet men specifically - just friends)? I live in a totally Chinese neighborhood (San Po Kong). I'm taking a Mandarin class at the YMCA and there are some other expats there, but beyond that, what's the story? Any other 40's out there?

Katharine
