Thanks,

| | | The contracts are required if you want to waive the installation fees. | |

| | | For PCCW/Netvigator, as Shri says, you will need to enter into a contract to waive the initial fees and also get some of their promotional goodies (wireless access points etc). You will need to chat with them on the phone as you should be able to get all of the promotional goods plus unlimited access on application.
Do not worry about the contract, they call me every 6 months to offer a better deal and every time the contract expires It gets renewed at a lower rate or with upgraded bandwidth.

| | | Thanks for the info guys. Still on the lookout for a room/flat to rent or share with someone. I have about 2 some months. I'm in the states now so it's kinda difficult for me to make calls and look at what's available. Oh, btw, I took my laptop with wireless pcmcia card to Times Square and they said I can access it for free. I do see their network but can't seem to connect to the internet. I saw alot of other wireless networks around there actually. Any ideas? I was there on April/May.
Thanks again!

| | Cyber Express ( www.cyberec.com) has a minimum 3 month contract. One of the reasons why I went with them. In terms of performance, speed, stability, especially with online gaming they are probably the best. | |

| | Buddy,
You still need to be subscribed to an ISP like Netvigator which has a few hundred hot-spots across town. You may want to piggy back on an open network.. but then I think you know the pitfalls of that approach.

| | | Bert, thanks I will definitely look into that? If i found a place to rent and want broadband, would I be required to have a phone line installed? Normally I just use the 200HKD orange long distance roaming card for my phone here from USA. It's going to be fun and challenging experience from me to start pretty much all over. But that plan on the webpage looks much more interesting thatn PCCW's. Thanks!
Shri, hmm strange i thought I had reply to this thread 2 days ago. Did the new webpage deleted it somehow? Anyways, I was going to say I was a pccw subscriber at that time, but still i couldn't access any webpages at all while i was at TIme Square. I finished off the night (i think it was mother's day) with a cheesecake without internet access
Thanks! | |

Used to have a static IP with a webserver on it.
Keep in mind that the UPStream (from your server to the browser) response rates are bad if the browser is in the US / transpacific connection. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 01:36 PM.
