Anyone know who I should call if I have a mold problem? It seems that I have what appears to be mold on my ceiling. The rear of the A.C is creating moisture in to the next wall and ceiling area . I have a feeling it's mold because I am experiencing heavy allergies. Can I just paint over this? I have sprayed dettol on it for days now. What can i do? I'm desperately needing some help with this! Thank you in advance!

If the ceiling is damp, I'd start by calling the management, given that it might be a broken pipe or leakage in the walls. Next step ... landlord if its a leaking aircon (there is a fine involved if the aircon leaks in public areas)

might need to get somebody in to repair the ceiling as if has water damage and theres the risk of the ceiling caving in due to the damp plaster. Get it seen to asap.

Dont spray dettol coz wont it wont work. If it is your own place, try and find anti-mold chemical which sells in the hardware or DIY shops. Those are nasty chemical and it does remove the mold. Get a professional person to check on your AC too. Good luck!

mold problem is not unusual in HK. Aircond works 24/7 during the summer and leaky plumbing, toilet and sink etc. create the perfect environment for mold to grow; especially in showers and bathroom (tiles and grouds). If it's a rental, the landlord must take care of it regardless if it's plumbing or aircond. But if it's the bathroom, you may have to take care of it yourself. Afterall, it part of the housekeeping. I recommend a 50/60 solution of bleach and water; mixed it well in a spray bottle. meldew and molds will be killed on contact and the stained will be removed from the tile and groud with a little scrubbing with a spunge.

No worries, Alya. It is a very small problem. Once you learn this and know to solve the problem, you will know what to do in the coming future if Mr. Mold and his family plans to say 'hi' to you again!
