all about books...

heya folks, i thought it would be nice to start a thread on books -we have read and are reading....

a thread to banter on about things we liked and disliked about books we have read and also books which we could recommend to the rest at geoexpat.....not sure if this has been done before.

let me start with a few i would recommend to the rest of you to read....some of my all time faves are...

- the alchemist by paulo coelho
- the little prince by Antoine de Saint Exupéry
- the unbearable lightness of being by milan kundera
- siddartha by hermann hesse

though I wouldn't dare to try and list my favorite reads

Just completed A couple by Patricia Highsmith- The Tremor Of Forgery and The People Who Knock On The Door.

Taking a few days off, then plan to start on I, Claudius by Robert Graves.

Has anyone entered the short story competition-A Breath Of Fresh Air -still a few days to go [entry form attached]

Books a nice thing to think about, like a mental holiday. Do not read that much fiction sadly but - 'The Lovely Bones' - heard Peter Jackson has been maybe tooling with a script, wanted to read it to see how it could play out. Quite fairytale, dark fable.
Enjoyed William Gibson, 'All Tomorrows Parties' + 'Pattern Recognition'. B B Ellis 'Lunar Park' but did not know what to think of it.xxx Okay back to the tv.

My favorites are:

Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt, (the sequel "T'is" is OK)--very well versed.
The Lover by Marguerite Duras--extremely raw and dense.
A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking--enlightening
Any book by Philip K. Dick--highly imaginative
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen--classic chick read
For some morbid reading, read Vincent van Gogh's private letters to his brother Theo.
