rani, did read potter 6, it was a bit abrupt, but it was allright on the whole...since it was a part of the series i suppose and XXXXX died.. that was a bit sad! ( for those who have not read it yet... don't want to ruin the suspense)

has anyone read this book? this is the next book on my reading list......what are your views, thoughts?

In the Name of Identity: Violence and the Need to Belong - Amin Maalouf

at the moment, i am reading a lovely book based in Tamil Nadu, S. India in the 1800's called ' The House of Blue Mangoes' by David Davidar - would definitely recommend it. It is such a well written descriptive book where one actully taste the flavours and smell those fragrances and get right into the culture traditions and life in southern india. the whole book is centred around the caste system in india and around the time when the east india company had a stronghold there.

i tried i-books over the summer, my bf and i listened to the Da Vinci Code whilst travelling. It was really good, especially as teh reader was putting on accents and stuff for all the characters.

Looking for new books to read. I was into reading Asian novels, Fallen Leaves, Memoirs of a Geisha etc, but want to diversify!

read all 4 books of dan brown, but personally i prefer angels and demons, his first book over the da vinci code.

i can suggest a few indian writers to you as i am trying to read more of them now...

the god of small things - arundhati roy (love the way she plays with words and her style - she won the booker for it)
the river sutra - gita mehta ( a sequence of stories along the banks of the river narmada- beautiful storyteller)
karma cola - gita mehta again ( must read if you are going travelling to india :-)
red earth and pouring rain- vikram chandra ( magic, myth, mysticism enjoyed the book)

and so many autors like vikram seth, jhumpa lahiri, amitav ghosh, r.k.narayan, salman rushdie....

I love Asian novels too. Do you read Chinese? If so, I can recommend tons.
Japanese novels are also very good. Especially Japanese detective stories.
