| | | Overstayed by mistake - help! Hello. I will make this short.
I overstayed in china because I was certain my visa was valid until 26th of october but it was only valid until the 14th it seems. I checked and I was very surprised. (6 months multiple entry visa.
I did however enter china on the 15th and I am kinda wondering why they let me in, at least I would have discovered the mistake back then.
I am trying to mobilize and get out of here but I need to go to Hong Kong to get my ticket back to denmark.
So I wanna ask if I got another 3 months stay when I rentered china or of the visa ends at the date shown?
Also what can I expect from the border police? Fine? arrest? what?
Last but not least I need a good cheap ticket and SOON. Normally I use STA travel but I cannot be sure to get a ticket this fast so any other options are welcomed.
Thanks. | |

| | | get out of china. Go to the China Travel Service here in Hong Kong and state your case.
The longer you overstay the larger your problem becomes.

| | | Tell the border police the overstay has been worthwhile because you have learned to make a mean chicken chow mein.
Nah, seriously, get the F*ck outta dodge.

| | | How come they let you enter on the 15th that's very weird?
A friend overstayed his chinese visa too before, it's annoying but should be all right.
You are supposed to face: 500 Rmb fine / day of overstay, maximum 5000 Rmb, so far 2500 for you.
Anyway, I always heard of people bargaining down to 2000 Rmb.
Instead of waiting, just head back to HK through the Shenzhen border cross. We did that last time, just pretend you didn't notice anything, be upset, they'll handle your case there. If they don't mention the fine, then say nothing, when going through the border with my friend, he had to pay nothing before.
Just be respectful with the agents who handle your case, quiet, explain what you are doing in China, that you didn't look at the visa.. That you have to catch a plane back home in HK, really have to head back, end of your trip, running out of money ...
It should be smooth, as it was for us before.
Best part, the next day my friend got a one year multiple entry visa to head back into China.

| | | I am trying to get my father to send me money for the ticket out.
I had some problems with some cheques from the US that didnt cash because they are us cheques.
I am in deep shit here I guess.
I just saw that the visa was for the 15th so naturally they let me in I must be very confused now.
Very worried.
Maybe my consulate would help me?

| | | Man,
Your consulate, actually no consulate can help you. I've been in the same situation too.
Just head back to the shenzhen border right now, with your 500 rmb, the earlier you do it the better it is. They won't shoot you in the neck ayah ha ha. They probably won't fine you anything, as I told you last time my friend had nothing to pay even if he should have.
Just do it now, they will give you a warning, be stressed at the border, cry, anything but shout at them or mention your consulate etc.
I will be fine, They won't arrest you, the worse which could happen is that they would tell you to stay until u receive the money from overseas, but just go now really.
And do it at the border cross point, not at the city's PSB because then you'll be stuck.

| | | I agree with kristof, It's not a really big deal but may be a lot of hassle. Especially if you do not have any money.
This happened to me a year or so ago. Took a couple of hours at the border and I had to pay a fine of RMB5000 which I believe is pretty average. Was told to be more careful next time.

| | | Well then 2 things:
Either you know you'll get the money from your father, then you stay as long as you need to get ready to go, and pay 5000 Rmb at the border, which is the maximum fine even if you overstay 3 months.
Or you take as much stuff as you can, head straight to HK with no cash, tell you have none and you're not even aware of the vias thing, get depressed, cry, plane to catch etc., dress bad and look poor, they will let you through without paying a fine, if not, you'll be back to your apartment waiting for the money, it's worth trying.
By the way, can you look at your visa, write down here exactly what it says on "Entries", "Issue date", does it say "Enter Before", is there any "Duration of each stay", and when exactly did you enter? 15th of October I guess? | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8.
