Angry Reverse racism and English teachers

I have been going through some past threads regarding teaching in Hong Kong and reverse racism. I am interested in teaching English in Hong Kong and would like to know to what extent this so called "policy" would affect me. I was born in Hong Kong and lived there until I was six years of age. I am now twenty- two and have just graduated from a respected Canadian university. My primary choice for an employer would be the Hong Kong Education Bureau( specifically, the NET scheme).

I have a Bachelor of Education degree(secondary) with a major in social studies and a minor in ESL( teaching English as a second language). I do not have any additional teaching experience on top of the mandatory 4 and 9 week practicums that I completed as a part of my program. As well, I do have several letters of references from the teachers and facilitators that supervised me during my practicums.

What would my chances be realistically of finding employment with these qualifications while "looking Chinese" at the same time? Any input would be much appreciated.

Flora, the problem is fairly under control. The ESF and the govt schools have hiring policies which do not consider ethnicity as much as they weigh in your abilities.

The problem is more on the private tution / kindergarden side of the business which is fairly unregulated. I'd drop the govt departments a line, before talking to the kindergarden / pre-school mafia.

Anyways, I'm fairly against the whole "reverse racisim" label. Racism is racism, irrespective of its polarity.
