Further to my earlier post on hypnotism;

After my hour session my doctor penciled in another appointment for the following week, told me to keep my pack with me and go to a pub.Which I dutifully did as soon as I left the clinic.

Four days later I called the doc and cancelled my appointment, which she said she expected me to do,as most of her clients find they dont neeed a booster session.

Over the last several years I have not only not had an urge for a fag but have grown extremly intolerant of anyone lighting up near me.

I've quit 20 times too...

To quit smoking, there's only one way to do it: cold turkey. Patches, gum etc is just prolonging the pain involved. Accept its going to be hard, that you'll eat yourself stupid, get stressed out and all that.

Before you stop, make sure you really want to. If you're certain about quitting, its really easy. Write down what you hate about smoking first (health effects, cost, social impact) to give yourself ammo to get you through the hard times. The first three weeks are the worst.

After that, its really important that you don't start again. This will mean avoiding going out drinking for a while. Just remind yourself that in the long term, its well worth it.

im gonna try to stop also, I always found though that having a pack of smokes at close hand actually helps me to cut the shake, since i know that i can actually get one if i really really need it. And i block out smoke free areas, so i can only smoke in areas that i feel stressed in or that remote and hard to get to. So i cant actually enjoy the smoke while i smoke it.
It worked good, i quit for about 8month then got so bored i started again..*Sigh*
and now i wanna quit again :P

i tried to give up smoking for years (smoked for a decade) but nothing worked until i took up surfing and realized how unfit i was! it was a big incentive to not smoke. so maybe find a sport you really want to learn and concentrate on that - it'll take your mind off the fags and you'll get fitter! i think the key is you've got to really want to stop smoking, so keep reminding yourself of all the downsides (expensive, bad for health, smelly clothes, stained teeth etc)

I'd more or less given up before I moved here, and immediately acquired a heavy drinking / heavy smoking lifestyle. Back in UK I used to be a complete gym bunny..I gave up smoking again YESTERDAY, and am slowly returning to the days of daily exercise. The more exercise you do the less you want to smoke I think, as it definitely hinders your performance!
