Okay, I just took a look at house prices here...OMG!!!! I'm a real estate agent in Texas, and for the price of a 1200 square foot house/apartment, I could build a 5000sq foot place and put it on an acre of land in the middle of the suburbs.

Heck, the house that I just finished building for one of my friend's parents was 7000sq ft, on 2 acres of land and was 2.1 million USD to build it and that is in one of the most expensive zip codes in America!

I don't know how too many people could live here and ever actually own the home they live in - how depressing, having to pay rent for the entirity of your life.

I think that area is popular with expats.. Its on the island, but away from the city centre; so quiet and less crowded.. plus there is a beach at both locations!

Transportation..hmm, not too sure but there are definately buses and minibuses going there.

Yes Adrian, Stanley and Repulse Bay are idillic locations for expats on big housing allowances - will suit your family. DB is good I lived there some years ago on and off. Travelling to Wanchai put me off staying but you will be in Central and that will make like a lot easier.

Discovery Bay is on Lantau Island. THere is a ferry that takes you directly to the IFC building in Central. It takes about 25 minutes.

try Pokfulam

Pokfulam is also a nice place to live in.I also suggested it to some of the people moving to HK this year. Great environment, good for the kids, alot of expats there as well. Visit this site, it offers the residential buildings in the Pokfulam area, which is just 15-25miins to central compared to DB or Sai Kung.
Hope it's helpful!

If you browse around the site you will also see other areas like happy Valley. Repulse Bay, Stanlet etcc..In case you may also need a reliable helper to help you with your baby, I know one whose really good and has worked for an Expat family for 15 years.Let me know what you think!
