Does anyone know a good pet store, western standart,
with reasonable prices for kittens? Can be local ones or race cats as well..They also should have a health check and vacinations..we looked for some shops in mong kok, tung choi street but was not so much to chooze from and quite expensive..we want to make sure the cats are healthy...

i been looking for a cat also, miss my cats back home.
But your right its expencive here..3-8K for a cat.
I actualy found a really ugly one today it had a serious underbite, but it was so friendly and it has so much personality that it became my favorite right away, i really want it..but 6000 i just cant fork out that much at the moment, then again i would try to buy almost any cat or dog in hk to save them from those horrible cages some are keept in.. breaks my heart to see them like that, my rabbit has a bigger cage than they have :S

It is rather disturbing. I think the worst one I saw so far was the three siberian huskies pups, even as pups they're as big or bigger than most the little dogs here.

Same cages.

check out the SPCA, you are sure to find a nice cat looking for a new home, and get it spayed before taking your new friend home

You can foster a kitten from the SPCA. They often receive litters of kittens and puppies which they need help to take care of and you can adopt them Tel - 28020501

Or you can adopt an older cat.

why would someone spend so much on an animal when there are so many out there that need homes?

good point, Carang.

the thing is, as it is in most western countries as well, most people are happy to talk about welfare and adoption, but not all people can carry through with it.

I am very "pro" adoption of strays, but there are a few possible problems you can pick up, eg mature animals with bad habits. this is a rare thing, but possible.

JohanSWE, if it is going to cost $6000 to buy a feline friend, and you miss ur own from home, why not bring your cat(s) over? The cost is not that bad (comparable to the price u just mentioned) and depending on ur country of origin there is no real quarantine issues (coming in, or going out). then u will have ur own happy little feline with u.

just my thoughts...

Well i have 13 cats back home..besideds i dont think they would enjoy relocating from my dads place in the countryside where they are free to come and go as they please, and can play around in the woods and fields.
And i wouldent like to lock them up in a small flat here.
Not to mention that my dad would probably miss "the zoo" as he calls it if it was transferd here.
