Seriously, if you compare the air pollution to other Asian ciies, HK comes out as one of the least polluted IMHO. Ever been to Shanghai, Tokyo,... HK comes out as one of the best, of course the haze thickens when the wind blows from the north, but still it could be much worse.

No doubt there are more polluted cities, but the original poster was asking about less polluted areas in Hong Kong...and I was being facetious in my posts...

Diet and the fact that the pollution has gotten worse in the last generation. Ask again in 50 years if this is still the case...

As for where to live, I'll second that it can get pretty bad just about everywhere. I do recall a few days in Kennedy Town that were pretty bad, but when I visited some friends up by the University, with a few more trees, it seemed quite a bit better. I think the trees helped a bit.

i suggest the OP just has a look around and chooses somewhere to live based on a few more practical issues.. like $, access to work, local shops etc.

I think you will like DB more than Lamma Island. I was liking in DB before but moved again due to work.

DB is pretty nice with a high expat community with drinkers out nearly every nite!

Expatriate has pissed of a few people
You can try the islands - Cheung Chau, Lamma, DB, Peng Chau - they have now fast ferry connection. It's good if you want to stay home at the weekend, or just walk around in the mountains.

Or you can try some of the serviced hermetically sealed apartments somewhere in the midlevels.

The pollution comes from the city itself - power plants in the West, traffic - or from China in the North. So South East of Hong Kong island in the middle of the woods might be best.
