Was in Parkview the other day and it occured to me that it might also be a good choice and should be within your budget - both the serviced and long term rentals.

Thanks for that link Rani. those apartments look amazing......
does anyone on this forum have any experiance of living/staying there ?? I will definately have a look when over next week. I think we have dismissed Cyberport as the transport would drive us mad. I know the transport in london is not great !! but a bus every 30 mins is far from ideal.....

I am in parkview, and the apartments are really nice. For that budget you can get a nice one bedder. If you see them you will understand that though it appears expensive, they do throw in a lot of services. And with some gentle persuation you can negotiate 15% off the list price.

Bear in mind the specification for the apartment includes;

1. Fully refurbished 2004/2005 (a lot of them are brand new)
2. Includes 42 plasma on the wall with Bose DVD surround + lcd tvs+dvd in bedroom.
3. All kitchen stuff like toaster kettle, cutlery included
4. 24 hour conceirge. This also means you can order room service from the conrad hotel.
5. gym, pool etc...
6. Remote control lighting
7. Double basin bathrooms with walk in rain shower etc...
8. Cleaning done every day

Blah blah blah......you get my drift. Man, I should be given a commission!

Bel Air is a high-end residential complex with many amenities and potentially great views. I believe they have a shuttle service for commuters and there's a public bus terminus in the Cyberport complex. But to be sure, the area doesn't offer the conveniences of Mid Levels and might not be the best choice for a childless couple. Cyberport is a largely unoccupied complex of buildings. In terms of retail activity, there's a supermarket, a cinema, a small foodcourt, a Starbucks, a Le Meridien Hotel, a couple restaurants and a handful of stores. It ranges from 15-40 minutes to Central depending on your mode of transport and the traffic...there isn't much else in the area. If you want to be more centrally situated (and with your budget, you can still get a large apartment), I'd look at places on Conduit Road, Kennedy Road, Macdonnell Road, Bowen Road.

Nutta -- Unfortunately you have Parkview mixed up with Pacific Place Serviced apartments.

>> I am in parkview
>> This also means you can order room service from the conrad hotel.

Would take a helluva long time to deliver.

Re:properties

I actually work in properties and I cant agree with GrandCider more. I really would recommend the West and Central Mid-Levels. They are close to your local supermarkets whilst Central and Admiralty (the main shopping and finance districts) are within a stone's throw away, and mid-levels is the choice of many expats. It is also a safe area- Bel-Air might be extremely appealing in terms of views and its a new build, but it is close to affordable housing and is not convenient. In Hong Kong its important not to get blinded by the facilities. Go for location and if the facilities come with the package its a bonus. You can always join gyms in central which are only around $400-$500 a month and have excellent facilities. I would recommend you to go to Robinson Road and MacDonnel Road and try a few agents there. Ask them about Palatial Crest (new build, close to bus stop and local shops on Robinson Road) and I am sure it will be well within your budget. Hope I have helped somewhat!

If you like the idea of a big residential complex, other places you might want to look at are Leighton Hill (similar facilities to Bel Air--in happy valley, walking distance to Causeway Bay) and Starcrest near Pacific Place 3. If you like jogging, definitely look at some places on Bowen Road.

haha, yeh pm'd janet yesterday and explained that parkview sounds like parkside, but they're not the same thing!

Funny enough though, the same points stand. The question was really asking about location vs space trade off....
