My work visa states "good for a single journey to Hong kong" which was stamped as -journey completed- when I entered Hong Kong in august. how does this work if I go on a holiday and leave hong kong. When i had a simialr visa when working in china I needed a re-entry added to the visa so that i could go back into the country when i left. I asked at immigration and they said it was fine but just wanted reassurance that someone else has this on their visa and has not run into any problems when coming back into HK???

It's normal. the single journey is the one you did coming to hk, "journey completed" on the date your visa is activated and starts (1 year?).
Then next time you leave hk and come back, they will put a stamp allowed to work until ... (date a year after you had that journey completed stamp)
