Pub question

Does anybody know of any half decent pubs that doesn't charge overly expensive pubs. Here are a list of pubs I have gone numerously and have gotten a little bored with.
phoenix
peak
dublin jacks
mes amis
hardees
club 64
1911
delaneys
bulldogs
whiskey priest
hong kong brewery
globe
bulldogs
bar george
california
the keg
stormy weather
coyotes
kangaroo
groovy mule
white stag
klong
also if anybody is looking for a drink contact me. I'm always looking for new drinking buddies.

I'd hardly call klong, mes amis and a number of the places you mentioned as "pubs".

The whole point of going to a pub (in my world) is to sit down, chill and have a drink with a friend or two. The conversations are far more important.

Having said that... what would you consider "overly expensive". $40HK is pretty much standard happy hour price for a pint.

The two places I have been going to for well over a decade are Schnubarrts and Dickens (much less these days given that I don't get to Causeway Bay as much as I used to when I worked in Wanchai / Central). Always run into old and familiar faces and both of them have a pretty low turnover as far as staff is concerned.

Oh yeah, and both those places have a low investment banker / financial advisor / PR / head hunter crowd.

Small chance I might be out this evening if the boss lets me out.

That's what a pub is to me as well.

Yeah, I went to Dixons the other night, your assessment is on the ball.

The problem is that I'm just looking for any kind of place where it is not too noisy, so that I can sit around and shoot the shit with a buddy or two. What I consider expensive is $50 and over for a pint, non-happy hour prices. I was just asking if there where any $30 pints in the central area.

(Guess I miss club 64, can't convince any of my friends to go club 97 they're a little on the pretentious side but are very nice people)

It's a bit of stretch I know, but when I go drinking I drink roughly around 4-6 pints, add in dinner and it starts to get a little more expensive. I shouldn't be worried about money when I see friends, but i am just like everyone else "you always want more for less.

club 64 has moved to a new location and its called club 71 now. it is in a lil alley off hollywood road. do you know where song ( vietnamese cuisine) is? if you go down the path leading to song.... you will see an alley there... just follow the path and you will walk into club 71. its a bit difficult to find since there is no sign on hollywood road.... same folks managing it.... its great :-)

the address is : Club 71 (Man Hing Street)

enjoy!

I went to club 97 once, but I was drunk. All I remember is going through a lot of alleys to get there. Actually I went to Whiskey Priest last night to wait for a client, and it was all right the staff were certainly friendly. Haven't been there for a long time.
