Can anyone give me advice on what phone is the best one o get to phone england with - have tried a few the first one was great and lasted ages but I didn't not which one it was the ones since then have lasted a lot less minutes.

If you have any mobile or fixed line then the phone company that provides it should offer you about HK$0.17/min to UK fixed lines - you aren't going to do significantly better than that on cards, and they're a load more hassle.

(e.g. PCCW 0060, HGC 0080, ... HGC also do an unlimited calling option to a number of countries including the UK - see here: https://online.hgc.com.hk/0088/index_en.html )

Note that calling UK mobiles is dramatically more expensive than calling UK fixed lines.
