OK. You will need a wireless adaptor attached to your computer. That will search for and connect to the wireless network. If you have a notebook with wireless built-in you can run up the software that it came with to search for a wireless network. Each will have a network name and you will need to find out what yours is called. It may be obvious. If so just click into it and it may ask you for a password.

Justin Credible: I don't know about you guys, but I am extremely busy and a bit of an insomniac. That's why i post from home, and I don't read books anymore, doesn't distract me enough.

After reaading this thread, I'm having doubts about getting the 2-user/3Mbps/NOW Broadband TV service.

Initially, I was looking to get the the TV in a central location in the living room and one connection in the study and another connection in another bedroom. I'm getting the impression though that the TV reception would be poor when online then (considering it's 'only' 3mbps)? Is this true?

If so, could anyone recommend what I should do and what problems they've had in the past. Would upgrading to 6M be helpful?

The issue of the wiring seems a bother now too as highlighted in Anthony's post. Do you think, as mentioned in my previous setup, this would be a problem?

Thanks to anyone who can answer the questions. I've only been on this forum a short while (an in HK) And I've already stumbled across an invaluable thread! Thanks!

Are you looking for a setup where you can watch NOW in two or more rooms independently of eachother? I didn't know that was financially viable. I asked before and PCCW replied that I would I have to apply twice so double the cost (even though I would only get one data line).

Mine is 6Mbps and I have reasonable reception quality. I have been advised by PCCW's technicians on two separate visits that the signal quality will not get any better i.e. there is no point in upgrading the download speed. So if you are looking at two installations sharing the same line then 6Mbps would be a minimum.

If you don't need the reception to be independent then you could consider an audio/video sender to wirelessly send the signal from one room to the other and you only need one installation.

No, sorry if i didn't clarify. I would like the Now Broadband TV service just in the living room and the Netvigator internet service (2-user/3M max) in the study and on in a separate bedroom.

Do you think it would be better and more hassle-free if I just got the 6M service plan in one room(the bedroom)? And then the NOW Broadband in the living room. It's not that great a problem to do that.

In my experience the TV doesn't degrade with the net connection active - the net connection just goes a bit slower (like 1-2MB on a 6MB connection with the TV on).

Isn't that significant? That's about a third of what you're paying for. Say I was to get 3M, then with the TV, I'd only be d/l at 1mbps.

PCCW require the hardware to be plugged into one telephone socket. The ADSL modem goes there and that feeds to both your NOW broadband tv decoder and your computer/router. If you have telephone sockets in each of your designated rooms then you should be able to choose which one takes the ADSL modem. Either way you will end up with ethernet cables running between the rooms.
What you could do is have the ADSL modem in the living room with the NOW decoder and tv blah blah. Get a wireless router and attach that to the ADSL modem. Your computers in the two rooms can then take the wireless signal from the living room. Wall thickness and number of walls will play a part in your decision.
