there is ANOTHER way to leave DB... there is a new bus that goes to SUNNY BAY MTR station. this cuts about 15 minutes off of the trip. i know someone who takes her child to Ho Man Tin everyday this way. however, it is time consuming. there is no point returning home between school runs. so she has to spend all day in town. if you are already enrolled in a kowloon tong school, why not look at kowloon tong????? that would make MUCH more sense! check out www.gohome.com.hk to get an idea of what you can get in that area. if you choose either DB or gold coast, you'll get more for your $$$ but you lose in the travelling times. (ps. i've been in hk for over 10 years and i have lived almost everywhere there is to live in that time.)

Thanks so much for all your advice. Can someone tell me how is the Taipo area? I heard this is not too far from Kowloon Tong and is at the same time away from the the crowds and hustle bustle of Kowloon. Is this true? Do you think an expat family from the US will fit in Taipo and it'll work better for us in terms of cummuting to work every day in Wan Chai and my kids going to school everyday in Kowloon Tong ? Your thoughts????

Tai Po is quite a big town up in the New Territories. Plenty of expats there and easy access to trains (KCR) and buses. KCR train runs down to Kowloon Tong, where you can transfer to MTR trains. The American International school is about a 10 minute walk from the train station. Tai Po has a mix of high rises and village houses. There are some beautiful villages around Tai Po all the way round the Tolo Harbour towards Plover Cove, but obviously the further you are away from the town centre the harder it is to rely on public transport. The nearest New Territories town to Kowloon Tong is Sha Tin - 1 stop to Kowloon Tong on KCR (Tai Wai) or 2 stops (Sha Tin centre). All buses run straight down past the American International School to Central/Wan Chai/Causeway Bay. Again plenty of ex-pats (when you know the place) but is the most expensive area in NT. Again a mix of high rises and village houses. I know it's been mentioned before but the advice is sound. Get a serviced apartment for a month or 2 before commiting yourself to anywhere. At least you'll have some time to look around and see things for yourself.
