Transferring money to HK I'm trying to figure out the best way (cheapest) to transfer money from my Bank of America account to the Hang Seng account that I recently opened in HK. I would appreciate your ideas. Thanks!

Don't Bank of America have some sort of agreement with China Construction Bank? Maybe worth inquiring whether opening an account with CCB would save you money on the transfer?

However you do it, the answer is likely to be in as few big chunks as possible rather than many small transfers, unless you have something like HSBC Global Transfer, which makes it all instant and free. Last edited by PDLM; 25-09-2009 at 10:00 PM.

Yes, you can use your Bank of America debit card at China Construction Bank ATMs without incurring any fees. The exchange rate is usually $1 USD = $7.75 HKD.

HSBC is the easiest. If you can just transfer your money from BofA to an account at HSBC USA, then open up an HSBC HK account. They will transfer between the 2 for free.
