Bird Flu !!!

What do people think about the seemingly imminent bird flu? It seems the stories are getting more alarming each day:

Is anyone going to stock up on a few masks or vaccines?

I've alreadly got a bad case of bird flu and I can't shake it. It's no surprise considering how much better looking the birds are here in HK.

simple... dont eat chicken =>shrugs shoulders<=

from WHO (world health organization):

5. How is bird flu transmitted to humans?

Bird flu is transmitted to humans from direct or indirect contact with infected wild ducks and chickens through infected aerosols, discharges and surfaces.

A person handling or taking care infected chickens or came near or inside a poultry or market where there are sick chickens can inhale the particles from dried discharges or feces with the bird flu virus.

Discharges can get in contact with the nose or eyes of a person handling infected chickens.

There is no reported case of bird flu in humans after handling dressed chicken. Since the virus is easily inactivated by heat, one does not get bird flu from thoroughly cooked chicken meat.

There is no evidence of human-to- human transmission.

So basically, it has the possibility of causing damage ONLY if it mutates. right now, just dont play with your pet chickens and stay away from undercooked meat... you'll be just fine.

The disturbing thing is these people handling dressed chickens, why dress them up in the first place, leave them die in dignity for gods sake.

Yes, cases in Asia so far have been confined to villages etc.

But I know people starting to stock up on masks (even vaccines) just in case the virus mutates.............from what the newspapers are saying, it would seem human to human transmission is going to start any moment LOL.

On another matter, does anyone know where one can find shops specialising in food products (e.g, imported meat) from Western countries ? (i.e, they will guarantee no meat from mainland). Or which restaurants in Central only cook meat from countries such as Australia ?

There are a couple of companies who deliver meat from Aus and South Africa. Small or big orders are fine. I think they have ads in the HK Dollar Saver mag.
