Beijing/Shanghai tours?

I might be in HK for a little over 3 weeks beginning of Dec. I have a 2 part question.

Does HK offer any tours to China(Beijing and Shanghai especially and maybe another citiy) for more than 1 week? I find many of the tours are rushed and tight in schedule. I like to be able spend at least 4 days in each city if possible.

Second is...is it worthwhile going in Dec up to Beijing and Shanghai because of the cold? What about going in April/May?

Any thoughts??

Try this: http://www.chinatravel1.com/english/...selections.htm. They are a pretty official tour operator for China (used to be run by the Chinese government), you won't be too off the mark if you start from there. They say they would do customised tour (at a price, I suppose).

Alternatively, a lot of people here would tell you just to get the tickets and hotels in these cities and join the odd tours organised by the hotels. In that case, you can take your time. It all depends on how adventurous you are, I guess.

On the weather side, if you are from Toronto, I would have thought that it is not a problem going in December. But then, it is always bette to go during a warmer weather.

Most hotels will offer tours but I recommend doing Tiannamen Square and the Forbidden City by yourself - you can then take your time.

Beijing in winter - are you mad? It gets down to -10 degrees!! but its your call!

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you think it would be that cold in Dec in Beijing -10C? I heard more like up to -3C. Even though I am from Toronto, who wants to vacation in the cold? When would you think it be best to visit?

Ideally I prefer to find a tour from HK because I know they will offer great packages including food. I just prefer a bit longer stay within each city.
