Could you define native english speaker?

I'm getting sick and tired of these english teacher spams.

As commonly understood in Hong Kong, people who speak English as their mother tongue are native English speakers. This is what the government's NET (native English teachers) is all about. A Canadian born Chinese, say for example, is one of those we're looking for.

By the way, out of curiosity, can you as a person who has vested interest in this, point me to the definition of a NE speaker?

I'm sure a dictionary definition of a native English speaker, would either be;

a) Someone who uses English as their first language.

or (and this is being anal)

b) A native person of England, who speaks.


Personally I find most Americans have butchered the English language, and for an American to teach English is like a virgin giving sex lessons, but I'll let that pass. Lots of foreign people seem to speak English with an American accent these days :-/

Wow, that is not very kind to say, is it? Just keep in mind that while Americans (and Canadians for that matter) don't speak "Queen's English" they are still competent users of the language. In fact, the popularity of "an American accent" is due in part to North America's strong economic and academic position in the world. By saying what said is a roundabout way of saying British English is best and discriminating against those who don't pronounce the vowels that same way as you do. BTW, there are plenty of British Chinese citizens who speak with an accent are they any less of a British National than you? Get off your high horse sir!

I'm not English, so I don't even have any such opinion on the British Empire - I'm Irish, and as such, come from a country that has been quite damaged by the "British Empire" - Cromwell, the Potato Famine and the Northern Ireland mess to name a few.

My point isn't regarding accents (personally my accent is English with a few drabs of Irish and Scottish). It's regarding grammar and language.

It's COLOUR not color. METRE not meter. And not so many Zs!

I just have a slight penchant for taking the piss out of Americans, so don't worry, it's not serious. But they should at least learn how to spell colour properly.
