Quite a few mistakes written above about who's the largest providers, etc. They rank in this order:

1. Hutchinson Telecom (3) 26.1%
2. New World Mobility (16%)
3. HK CSL (15.4%)
4. Peoples Phone (14.2%)
5. SmarTone (11.9%)
6. Sunday (8.3%)

I've used CSL and SmarTone and gave up on both of them. CSL in some parts of Sai Kung was actually connecting to the China Mobile network meaning roaming calls in HK! I now use New World all over HK and have not yet had a problem with connection or call clarity. Mind you I do use a Nokia handset, not the Motorola than someone else mentioned. I think it's more down to the call plans, the mobile networks in HK are generally extremely good and much better than the availability elsewhere.

If your figures are correct then everyone else's perceptions must be down to pure imagination.

Figures published this week in SCMP on Thursday after being released by OFTA.

These also match our own figures when studying our HK fund offerings.

Well as some would say it's not quantity but quality.
I wish there was a quality rating to base decisions on.

I'm with New World. Only cos the girls in Sunday were rude, smartone shop hadnt opened, I have bad experience with 3 from UK and so we went with New World.

I havent had any problems, except those damn recorded messages I get once in a while, and I need to sort out the chinese text messaging they keep sending me about my bill due date!

cosmokat will become famous soon enough
I've been using Sunday for about 6 months now and haven't really had any problems with them. In fact, it seems to work quite well for me and with my phone. No complaints on the reception and clarity, except of course the occasional dead spots like in elevators, etc... Plans generally don't vary too much across the providers, unless you stumble across some promotion or sign up with multiple friends/family members.

Just got IDD added to my service too. It's cheap to call certain countries, like U.S. and U.K. (landline for UK). 100 IDD minutes a month for an extra $18. And even if you go over, it's just an extra $0.18 a minute to those countries. (It includes a few other countries but can't remember which ones, cause I was only mainly interested in US/UK). How does the IDD price compare to other service providers??

You need to factor in the mobile airtime with your $0.18 but it is still a good rate. PCCW's 0060 is $0.17 to the U.K. to which you also need to add the mobile airtime. However, there is no mobile airtime if you use 0060 from a landline (I've just bored myself).
