If your budget is 7k HKD... then, goodbye dual-cores... goodbye GeForce 6800ultra (or above).

I use an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. It still hasn't failed me... 5 months now. Asus is the way to go... quite reliable. Probably the best MB maker out there.
I hesitate to go down this road, because I know people have their personal biases, and I respect that. I have mine too. But designers are not sheep. We get paid to make things, and the industry standard was not created on hype.

"'hype' that mac users are a select few and are cool." This is rather insulting. We use a better OS, because it works better. It's the industry standard for a reason. A lot of small boutique firms spend the money because they think it's a good investment. Not because they buy into hype. Remember a lot of us create hype, so we know the difference.

Macs are not necessarily more expensive.

As for the OS, um...designers care about aesthetics. That's why we use things that look attractive to make things that are attractive (hopefully, though we create too much dreck too). Still the beauty isn't just skin deep. PC interfaces have been trying to catch up since 1989. Now they're up to 1995.

True, you can probably do the same things on the Mac that you can on the PC. And I could use any mp3 player instead of an Ipod. But why would I? I look at this every day.

Are aesthetics so irrelevant to people? Maybe, but not to me. But, with full disclosure, Apple's help me build a career since 1985, so I have my bias.

Either way, please refrain from accusing Mac user's of buying into hype. Many of us are thinking individuals (like you), who have made informed purchasing decisions.

Fair enough.

Try this though. Send a Corel Draw doc to a printer.

got pics of your rig? there's a new Asus card with 2 - 7800GT chips on it! And it can be done in SLI to have 4 - 7800GT chips!!!!!!! Which will cost you 1,600 USD for the two cards.

yey... I'm not rich enough.
