| | | dependent visa Am i correct in thinking that i can only get a dependent visa if im MARRIED to my partner? He is moving to HK for work and will be there for about 10 years so obviously im going too.
I wont NEED to work but i may want to out of intrest or boredom lol, but in terms of visas from what ive read so far i can get a dependent visa being sponsored by him, but only if we are married. is this correct? and if im on a dependent visa then i can work?
I could also get a tourist visa that could be reissued a few times but not forever, or a work visa, if im sponsored by the company. Have i missed anything out?
What about us modern types who dont particually want to get married (or would love to, but havnt actually been asked yet) The last thing i would want is to get married out of nessesity rather than love.
Thanks for any info!

| | | Correct - only if you are legally married. But even if you get it then you would not be able to work while dependent on someone on an employment Visa. After he has been here 7 years he would be able to become a Permanent Resident. You would then be able to work if (still) married to him.
If you want to be sure of being able to stay with him then you need to marry him or get someone to sponsor you for an Employment visa of your own.

in normal cases, it takes approx. 1.5 to 2 months.

| | | My partner is a pilot for Cathay Pacific, so even if we are based in HK for up to 10 years, its more than likely we wont actually BE in HK for all that time. | |

| | | Hi, just on the topic of dependant visas - does anyone know if it is easier/harder to apply for one if the partner is actually in HK? For example, if they came in on visitor visa and waited around for dependant status would this be OK or do they need to leave the country to validate it? | |

| | | Dependant Visa We're still in Jakarta when we got our visas (employment and dependant visa), so when we arrived, we use our visas rather than have to go out of the country and validate them.
I think its easier for you to be where you are and enter HK when you have the visa.
