if you enjoy your work then I don't see anything wrong with the long hours. On the flip side in a crappy job even 7hrs is a real drag.

I work in an Inv bank and do an average 12-13hr day but the way I look at it is that it takes me 10mins to get to the office. In London I would leave home at 7.00 to be in at 8.30ish (at the mercy of BRail) and leave the office at 6.00ish to be home for 7.30ish.

Here I leave at 6.45am, have a quick takeout lunch and then work through to 7-8 but with the short commute I have a better life !

Expatriate has pissed of a few people
We are a bit flexible. You have to be there between 9 and 5, but if you want to leave at 5 you have to be there at 8, if you want to come at 9, you have to leave at 6. 1 hour lunch.
You get OT paid only if you are ordered to do OT. If you want to do more, that is your freedom. Nobody looks down upon you if you work strictly 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. You only get a problem if you don't finish your work.

The impression about 2 hours lunch probably comes because some offices have lunch from 12-1 and most from 1-2.

In Chinese factories 3 hours lunch is normal. Often they have also 2 hours dinner and continue after that until 10.

They may be lazy but they're not stupid - working 1.5 days every day and not getting paid for it is a sign of great contract negotiation skills.

ariva is on a distinguished road
On average I get in around 7.30am, and leave around 8.30pm -- conference calls may extend this to 10.30pm. My experience is that banking hours are the same between NY and HK.

From what I can tell, in general, employees in corporates in HK definitely have an easy life, coming in after 9am and leaving before 6pm along with the standard 1 - 2 hour lunch. This is made worse by the fact that many are unproductive and often waste time the day on the phone or chatting on MSN

Go Disco!!

i get a bit tired of all these people that tell me we're lazy, just because they work rediculous hours. they eat shop, sleep shop, talk shop. try to talk to them about something that isn't shop, they have no idea, because their "life" revolves around work.

I work to live, not live to work. mb i'm lazy, but i'm happy with that. sick of 60hr weeks and no rewards. prefer to work 40-50hr week and have some time to live...

fwed

(a lazy fcuker, with a life )
