Talking Transport options Hanoi to Hong Kong

Hi

Appreciate if people can give me the options, costs and hopefully experiences when travelling from Hanoi to Hong Kong...e.f. there are airlines e.g I know of Vietnam and Cathay... are there any others as a option? Does anyone know if the cost buying airfares locally...the prices quoated in NZ are expensive...but there doesn't seem to be much competition between Carriers which I presume keeps the price high...interested in other forms of travel e.g. an overnight train ....Hanoi to Hongkong ...expected time, cost...things to see on the way (I suppose at night very little).....appreciate if you can let me know ASAP

Try www.lastminute.com.hk

I presume China Eastern flies that route but into Shenzen/Macau.

One of the cheapest way to go is from Guangzhou.
Vietnam Airlines/China Easter (they usually share the flight) has flights Guangzhou-Hanoi for around 2.200 HKD. U can take a bus from HK to Guangzhou (around 70HKD if I am not mistaken).
U have train from Guangzhou to Nanning and then Nanning to Hanoi as well.

U need visa for Vietnam and China. If you do everything by bus/train passing by china you will need a multi entry visa for both country.
If u are on a budget trip and u have not too much time (less than 15 days) it might be difficult to do everything by train/bus. How many days are you plannig to travel?

Hi now am working on 14-15 days in vietnam 4 days in hong kong....plus days for international travel.....all up 20-21 days approx

I thought 3 days in HMC
2 days in Nha trang
1 day Hoi Ann
1 day Hue (all other suggestions
overnight train to Hanoi
2-3 days Halong Bay
2 days Hanoi
2 days overland train back to HK...this is the only problem i have sorting out......
4 days HK

Which place in Vietnam am I missing out which is a must... I am 45, wife 44, son 18, son 15....I want to avoid wasting time on uninteresting travelling but we need to keep our costs....we are use to roughing it...well maybe not my wife as much....

We are hoping to use buses and trains to travel through vietnam....hopefully travelling long trips at night i.e. while we sleep.......

If u travel from vietnam to hk by train, you'll have to travel to guangzhou first, then guangzhou to hk, so you'll also need a chinese visa for that.

The plan is OK. All trips in Vietnam can be done by night (if u really want to make it cheap u can buy an OPEN TOUR bus ticket (from HCM to Hanoi). Cost around 30 US per person and you can stop wherever you want during the trip. So you can easily do 3 days in HCM then a night bus to Nha Trang (2 days) then a night bus to Hoi An (1day), nitgh bus toi Hue (1 or 2 days), night bus to Hanoi. From Hanoi u will have to take a minibus for Halong Bay (if u take a package: bus+ boat+night+food+activites:Kayaking...it will cost u around 30 USD each for the Halong Bay trip).
I will check for the Hanoi/Nanning/Guangzhou train and let you know the required time.
