Hi !

I will move to HK next month with my wife (pregnant) and will work around Kwai Fung / Kwai Hing.

The big question is where to look for a flat that will give me the best compromise between commuting time, environment and size... My budget is 20,000 to 25,000 HKD. I really cannot make up my mind between living on HK Island (and if so, where ?), Discovery Bay or Kowloon...

What do you suggest ?

discovery bay is perfect for pregnant women and families..but limited transportation facilities..

kowloon will be better as it will be closer to your work area..god luck!!

I guess you need to think about the streets and stores around where you look. If your wife is pregnant, then you'll want to be near a doctors/hospital and also grocery stores. You don't want to be in a very built up/noisy area like Kowloon under your position, but thats not to say to rule it out. I'm guessing you wont be hitting the bars too frequently anyway.

GoldCoast can be a good option for your pregnant wife. For you it isn't that far from Kwai Fung.

Sham Tseng(a bit further from Tsuen Wan) & Ma Wan )near Tsing Ma Bridge) could be nice too. Very close to Kwai Fong and its looking at the sea.

hi, I am living in tsing Yi. it's about 20 mins away from kwai Fong (by mini bus). Tsing yi is relatively closer to downtown (20 mins from central with MTR) but also gives you a nice comfy environment. A lot of expats who work for the airport/airlines reside in Tsing Yi. You can find seaview, huge mall, starbucks, dim sum, puppies here, just name it...

Thank you for the advise. I just went to Tsing Yi and I like the place. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that my wife (French) will probably not find it easy to make friends here...

Thanks anyway. I'll keep house hunting but Tsing Yi is definetly top of my list.

well, the french community is relatively smaller in hk but tsing yi is def quite popular among expats. you see them bumming around maritime square alot. it should be alright. good luck buddy.
